Amex GBT shifts focus to hotels and meetings

The TMC is finding that hotel bookings are recovering faster than flights when it comes to business trip bookings

Mar 10, 2023

The world’s biggest corporate travel agency has made hotels a “strategic priority” as it leverages the special relationship it has with Expedia. Amex GBT bought corporate travel platform Egencia from Expedia Group a couple of years ago, and as part of the deal gained access to its vast hotel content.

Key takeaways

  • For the three months to Dec. 31, 2022, the recovery of hotel transactions was at 80%, 14% points above air;
  • Amex GBTA increased its hotel content by bringing in all content from Expedia into its Neo and Egencia booking tools;
  • Increased meeting bookings also boosted hotel revenue, particularly for groups of under 50 people, bringing Amex GBT’s meetings and events division past pre-pandemic levels.
