How Indian travelers plan their holidays in 2024

Booking.com's insights into India's travel trends for 2024 offer a glimpse into how travelers are approaching travel planning.

Apr 30, 2024

The majority of Indian travelers (61%) book their flights well in advance, and a significant proportion (37%) also purchase tickets for events well in advance. However, when it comes to other essentials such as car rentals, restaurant reservations and taxis, these tend to be arranged either at the same time as accommodation bookings or closer to the departure date.

Key takeaways

  • About a quarter of Indian travelers prefer the convenience of combining different aspects of their trip. They look for platforms that offer seamless booking of flights, accommodations, attractions, car rentals, dining and transportation all in one place;
  • When choosing accommodations, Indian travelers prioritize culinary offerings. Forty percent are willing to pay extra for a lavish breakfast spread, while 54% are interested in unique dining experiences such as food tours and cooking classes;
  • A significant segment (ranging from 13% to 33%) of Indian travelers delay making car rental, restaurant reservations and taxi bookings until just before their trip. They value flexibility and spontaneity, and enjoy the opportunity to discover local treasures and surprises once they arrive at their destination.
