Most travel buyers expect more uncertainty during 2023

Majority expressing concern about the lack of readiness from TMCs for changes to airline distribution

Apr 27, 2023

A survey of 100 corporate travel buyers carried out by the Institute of Travel Management (ITM) found that 61 per cent were prepared to “expect the unexpected” during 2023, while 24 per cent were optimistic and 14 per cent described themselves as concerned or anxious about the year ahead.

Key takeaways

  • Buyers expressed worries that there would be a rise in leakage from their programs if their TMC was not ready to provide access to new NDC-enabled fares;
  • Current policy did not allow travelers to book outside the TMC and they were concerned that more travelers could ask for policy exemptions;
  • Sustainability is becoming more of a priority for buyers with 82% saying business travel was now part of their organization’s roadmap to achieving net zero carbon emissions.
