The planner signs your room block. The attendees now book on Kayak.

Kayak for Business says 45,000 event attendees have booked through its Events tool. The screen they book on now pulls from the GDS, through Amadeus.

Driving the news. Your sales manager signs a block of 60 rooms for a company's sales kickoff. The company runs its travel on Kayak for Business, the corporate booking tool of Booking Holdings, which also owns Booking.com. Each attendee gets a link, opens Kayak's hotel search and books from whatever it shows. Nothing in Kayak's setup puts your block on that screen. The attendee who books your hotel anyway pays the public rate and doesn't count toward your pickup. The block comes in short, and next year's gets sized on it.

This now runs at scale. In an interview with Business Travel News published September 21, Kayak said its Events tool has handled bookings for 45,000 attendees across more than 130 events since a pilot in January. Every Kayak for Business customer worldwide has had it since July.

The same interview carried a line hoteliers haven't heard from Kayak before. The business version is plugged into the GDS, through Amadeus.

How the attendee books. Kayak's help guide lists what the organizer fills in. Event name, location, dates, an RSVP deadline, a booking deadline. Then a travel policy and a payment method, which can be one budget and one company card for everyone. Then the invitations, up to 10,000 of them. Attendees book their own trips through what Kayak's Events page calls its global marketplace.

There is no step for a group block. No field for the group rate, no booking code, nowhere to name the hotel that signed the contract.

Spotnana, another corporate booking tool, built its events feature the same way. BTN's launch report in March 2024 describes invitees booking inside a set travel window under the company's normal travel policy.

The feed underneath. Consumer Kayak shows your hotel only if you're bookable through an online travel agency or a booking engine. Its page for hotel owners says so.

The business version is wired differently. "Of course, we connect through Amadeus and get the global distribution system content," Eva Fouquet, who runs Kayak for Business, told BTN. Direct connections to suppliers come on top. Kayak then supplies that content to the corporate travel agencies it partners with, FCM and Altour among them.

So a Booking Holdings screen now has a GDS door. A rate you load there can reach it without passing through Booking.com.

The catch. Kayak's guide shows what the organizer is asked for. It doesn't show what happens when a planner has signed a block anyway, and Kayak hasn't said. Many of those 130 events will be offsites and recruiting days with no block at all. And Fouquet didn't say how much of the hotel search comes from the GDS.

What it means for hotels. The work sits in the group contract, before anyone signs.

Ask the planner which booking tool the attendees will use. They differ. Navan bought BoomPop on September 9, a meetings company that handles room blocks and contracts, for up to $95 million according to Navan's quarterly filing. Kayak's and Spotnana's setups, as documented, have no place for a block.

If it's one of those, write a pickup credit into the attrition clause. Rooms booked through the company's tool by named attendees count toward the block, checked against the registration list.

Then check your rates and your hotel description in the GDS. Kayak's corporate screen now reads from it.
